The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s wrapped up yesterday and despite the pandemic was still able to achieve the ambitious goal of $125,000. Participants walked their own way, whether around their neighbourhoods or within their own home throughout January in honor of the 10,787 people in this region living with dementia.
January was Alzheimer Awareness Month. The funds raised will immediately be used to support people with dementia and their care partners locally.
“We reached out to the community for help and they really stepped up this year!” says Teena Kindt, CEO, Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region. “These funds will go a long way to provide seamless programs and services as the demand continues to rise year after year. It is all about living well with dementia.”
A great expression of support was shown by some top teams, which included IG Wealth Management, Avondale Food Stores and Spokesperson Natalie Walker’s team “Doin It for Our Dads.”
The Virtual Wrap Up Trivia event was attended by 14 teams, there was entertainment by Cory Cruise and Regional Chair Bradley and St. Catharines Mayor Sendzik provided their greetings. Overall it was a fun afternoon bringing together a community of people who truly desire to make a difference for those living with dementia.
The total raised is expected to still increase as offline donations continue to come in and the Online Silent Auction that was launched yesterday continues until February 22. To participate in the auction: www.32auctions.com/asnrwalk.
