From July 2022 until July 2023, the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development aims to emphasize the importance of basic science and education from early age. With the adoption in 2017 of the UNESCO Recommendation on Science and Scientific Researchers, countries are now trying to encourage children and people to pursue scientific careers, which is essential for the development of humanity. Basic (also called fundamental) Sciences encompass a wide range of disciplines but with all know that they are significantly contributing to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Education and dissemination of scientific knowledge should be accessible to everyone to ensure a fair, inclusive, and diverse citizenship.
We therefore invite all poets to reflect on how for them this International Year means in the context of Sustainable Development.
