The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre is delighted to announce the return of its highly anticipated Holiday Market, running from December 6 to 15, 2024. This annual event features original works by artists and artisans in a festive atmosphere, offering a wide selection of handmade gifts, holiday décor, and artwork—perfect for those seeking unique presents for the season.
The market will be set in the contemporary gallery space, with Christmas trees adorned with ornaments available for purchase and tables lined with an array of unique items, including jewellery, pottery, glassware, textiles, personal care products, woodwork, candles, birdhouses, and gourmet treats. Winter-inspired original artwork will be showcased and available for sale.
This year’s market highlights a blend of well-loved favourites and exciting new talent. Making her debut is Filomena Scarfone, who shared: “As a local artist, I’m thrilled to be part of this year’s event. Fellow artists have told me how wonderful it is to see our neighbours come together to shop and discover local art as meaningful gifts for their loved ones or themselves. This year, my work features fine art photography of cherished local landscapes, beautifully displayed on natural marble stone.”
Ron and Barb Zimmermann from Lakeside Pottery in Niagara-on-the-Lake have been part of the Holiday Market since it began. “We’re excited to showcase a beautiful selection of our stoneware mugs, bakeware, and decorative pieces this year, along with our signature porcelain ornaments,” they said. “Each piece we create is made to be enjoyed every day.”
Returning for his second year is Roger Martelli of Piccola Cucina, offering new sweet varieties alongside best-loved selections. “I’m excited to be back for another year at the Holiday Market,” Martelli shared. “Last year, I hoped to turn around a challenging summer market season and was blown away by the enthusiasm of the organizers and the incredible response to my chocolates. It was exactly the inspiration I needed to keep going. This year, I’m introducing two new flavours along with my flagship maple fudge: peanut butter fudge dipped in milk chocolate and chocolate hazelnut fudge dipped in dark and gold chocolate—rich and delicious!”
The market offers a relaxed shopping experience, allowing visitors to browse at their leisure. ‘Holiday helpers’ will be on hand to assist, offering insights into the handcrafted items and the artisans behind them.
The Holiday Market kicks off during the Niagara-on-the-Lake Rotary Holiday House Tour on December 6 and 7, a cherished event that showcases the town’s heritage homes, beautifully decorated for the festive season. The art hub of the community will be one of the tour stops, and visitors can enjoy festive refreshments on these dates.
Beyond being a shopping event, the Holiday Market supports the community. Proceeds help fund the Niagara Pumphouse Art Centre’s programs for children and seniors. Additionally, visitors are encouraged to bring donations for the Newark Neighbours Food Bank, helping local families in need during the holiday season.
Admission to the market is at no charge. Guests can also participate in the art centre’s annual Giving Tree fundraiser, where donations over $100 receive a personalized ornament to hang on the tree.
The Holiday Market is held at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre, located at 247 Ricardo Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake. For more details, visit holidaymarket.ca.
