Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre is delighted to announce the upcoming solo exhibition of “By the Lake, on the Lake,” showcasing the works of contemporary local artist Tara Korkmaz. The exhibition will run from June 26 to July 26, 2024, at the art centre’s Joyner Gallery. This captivating exhibition promises to engage viewers in a thought-provoking exploration of the interplay between the abstract and the representational.
The title “By the Lake, on the Lake” alludes to the transience of life mirrored in the perpetual cycle of renewal and growth experienced by the lake, paying homage to the beauty and serenity of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Korkmaz’s artwork invites viewers to reflect on their surroundings and appreciate the peace found amidst historical turmoil.
Korkmaz’s work is characterized by its contemporary dialogue in the art space, rooted in extensive research and a commitment to fostering vibrant discourse. Her interdisciplinary approach, blending analogue and digital techniques, reflects her deep connection to the community and the shared experiences that define Niagara-on-the-Lake as a natural home.
“I aim to inspire new ways of seeing the ordinary and taking in the extraordinary, to appreciate differences and to marvel about every peculiar mark and lurking pigment,” says the artist. “Ultimately, I want my audiences to dive into my work, see the brighter side of the events and find pleasure in acquiring my art.”
The public is cordially invited to the opening reception on Sunday, July 7, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre. Attendees will have the opportunity to personally engage with Tara Korkmaz, learn about the inspiration behind her captivating pieces, and connect with fellow art appreciators. Remarks by the artist will commence at 2:30 pm, offering insight into the themes and creative process behind her artwork.
This special event is generously supported by Château des Charmes, who will be providing an assortment of fine wines for guests to enjoy as they immerse themselves in the transformative power of art.
