The St. Catharines WMKL Athletics kicked off the Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B season with a 10-6 win at Six Nations Friday.
The game was tied 3-3 after one period before the A’s outscored the Rebels 4-1 in the second to take a 7-4 lead into the third period.
“Overall, very happy with how we played and started the season,” A’s head coach Alec Tamas said. “The game got a little sloppy at times, a lot of nerves especially early on, a lot of players playing in their first junior game. But we stayed disciplined and stuck to the game plan and ultimately were able to go on a late game run to get the win.
“Very proud of the way our group handled the early adversity and how they continued to push themselves throughout the game. We got better as the game went on and that was the difference.”
Landon Jaeckle, Colton Armitage, Jaden Patterson and Trent Mooradian all had two goals each for the A’s while Cody MacNeil added a goal and four assists. Lucas Williams also scored and Jack Parker added three assists.
Mike Napoli earned the victory in goal.
