The Canadian Federation of University Women seeks opportunities to empower women who choose to participate in civic life. We want to assist them to achieve their goals, as we believe that equality is an important step in improving the status of women and children.
The Advocacy Committee of CFUW Welland and District wishes to congratulate all female candidates who have decided to run in the upcoming municipal elections. As a show of support we have provided this ‘Learn More about the Women Running’ Community Information Page as a platform to raise awareness of their campaigns.
The CFUW Welland and District sent the following request for submissions to each woman candidate running in our district of Pelham, Port Colborne, Wainfleet and Welland to give them the opportunity to share a bit about who they are and what they stand for.
As a woman seeking a position of leadership, we welcome you to submit a 300-350 word paragraph to introduce yourself and possibly address the following questions.
- Why are you running ?
- Why do you think it is important for women to be represented in civic leadership?
- Please identify the most critical policy, project or initiative in your platform that addresses systemic barriers faced by women in your municipality.
- What is the greatest challenge your municipality faces?
All of the responses that we received are posted here on our website – unedited and unabridged – as provided to us by the Candidates.
