A one-of-a-kind place for good coffee, good food, and no gimmicks.
Business background
Lucas Spinosa opened Black Sheep Coffee Roasters in August 2015, and he’s grateful to acknowledge it happened with the help of his family and friends. A born-and-raised Welland resident, Lucas spent his early life working and playing in his father’s bakery, Spinosa’s Bakery, and he discovered his love of people. After spending a few years playing music, he came across an opportunity to build a community space of his own in Black Sheep.
The name Black Sheep wasn’t chosen by accident. It stems from the idea that everyone has felt a little different at some point in their life, and the notion that people should lean into that difference. The goal of the business is to build a community of like-spirited “black sheep” around specialty coffee.
Recognizing that nothing brings people together like coffee and good conversation, Black Sheep has established itself as a place for first gigs, first dates, book releases, and more. It is also where Lucas met his wife, Katie, affectionately known as Mrs. Black Sheep. As a community partner, Black Sheep hosts fundraisers for local charities, sponsors high school scholarships, and supports youth sports teams.
