More than 2,500 nurses dedicate their services to Niagara Health, which is a record number being recognized during this year’s National Nursing Week, which takes place May 8 to 14.
“The impact our team of nurses has on the community, and on their colleagues, is monumental,” says Janice Feather, Director, Nursing Practice. “We are incredibly grateful for their dedication to providing safe and compassionate care to patients and their loved ones. Their dedication to extraordinary care is inspiring.”
In celebration of Nursing Week, Niagara Health will be recognizing 25 award recipients in nine categories as part of our annual Nursing Excellence Awards, which will be announced on Thursday, May 11.
“Our team of nurses at Niagara Health serve as role models for all of us on how to kindly and compassionately care for our patients,” says Lynn Guerriero, President and CEO. “During the last several years, they have faced immense pressures, and handled it with the upmost professionalism and dedication. I am grateful for everything they do and look forward to honouring these staff and their accomplishments.”
This year’s Nursing Week theme, which was developed by the Canadian Nurses Association, is Our Nurses. Our Future. The theme recognizes the many roles that nurses play in a patient’s healthcare journey.
Niagara Falls will be illuminated blue from 10 to 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9 in celebration of nurses across the region and across the world. On behalf of the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, the illumination can be viewed virtually. In addition, on May 8, the City of Welland’s Bridge 13 and Brock University’s Schmon Tower will be illuminated blue.

National Nursing Week draws attention to nurses, increasing the awareness of the public, policy-makers and governments of the many contributions of nursing to the well-being of Canadians. The week is celebrated annually in Canada during the second week of May, which falls over the birthday of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale on May 12.
