“Food insecurity and income are closely linked, and even people who are working may not have enough money to buy food,” said Mark Carl, CEO Habitat Niagara. “The global health pandemic has increased people’s dependence on food programs because some people are working with less pay, aren’t recalled back to work or have lost their job completely. We hope this special promotion will bring in the much-needed food items for these amazing charities.”
The Niagara Habitat for Humanity ReStores are supporting local food programs across the region through its Donation Drive/ReStore Savings Event. Below are the charities they are supporting along with their greatest needs:
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore Fonthill, 2499 Hwy 20 – The Hope Centre.
Needs: Pasta sauce, canned fruit and vegetables, juice, and canned pasta. - Habitat for Humanity ReStore Grimsby, 185 South Service Rd. – The Grimsby Benevolent Fund. Needs: Kid’s snacks and toiletries.
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore St. Catharines, 150 Bunting Rd. – Southridge Shelter.
Needs: Cereal, pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter (for meal kits).
Habitat Niagara wishes to thank everyone for supporting our local charities during these challenging times and for helping to build stronger and healthier communities.

About Habitat for Humanity Niagara
Habitat Niagara builds decent, and affordable houses, providing no-down-payment, interest-free mortgages to qualifying families who would otherwise not be able to purchase their own homes. Habitat is not a giveaway program in that we provide “a hand up not a hand out.” Established locally in 1993, Habitat Niagara is constructing its 67th home in Niagara at the end of this year, serving 73 families over the past 27 years, creating stable and secure housing for more than 250 children. Recently, Habitat for Humanity Niagara was recognized in Maclean’s magazine for a second year in a row as ranking in Canada’s best charities 2020.
Habitat for Humanity Niagara also operates a home improvement retail outlet – the ReStore – selling donated new and used building materials, hardware, appliances, and home supplies. Habitat for Humanity ReStores play an integral part in Habitat’s mission, providing financial support for our work. The Niagara ReStores are located at 2499 Hwy 20, Fonthill, 185 South Service Road, Grimsby, and 150 Bunting Road, St. Catharines. For more information please visit www.habitatniagara.ca
