Niagara Falls, ON – Niagara Parks has commenced work to replace four recreational hiking path staircases within Queenston Heights Park that provide linkages to various trail systems, iconic viewpoints, cultural heritage sites and the Village of Queenston.
Situated at the top of the Niagara Escarpment, Queenston Heights Park is a primary tourism and recreational destination located within the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and adjacent to the Village of Queenston.
The construction began with the removal of the aging wooden stairs, which has been completed. The next phase will be the installation of concrete footings, followed by the installation of new galvanized steel stairs. Work is expected to be completed by July.
Additional construction projects in the area will also be undertaken this spring and summer, including:

Nestled high atop the Niagara Escarpment in the north end of Niagara Parks, Queenston Heights Park offers picturesque hiking trails, picnic areas, including two pavilions and public washrooms, as well as Queenston Heights Restaurant, Niagara Parks’ locally sourced restaurant at the base of Brock’s monument overlooking the lower Niagara River and wine country. Queenston Heights Park is also home to a collection of War of 1812 plaques and memorials, including Brock’s Monument and the Landscape of Nations Memorial and provides connection to two of Niagara Parks’ heritage sites in Queenston – Laura Secord Homestead and Mackenzie Printery.
The southern terminus of Canada’s oldest and longest marked footpath, the Bruce Trail, Queenston Heights Park is also a critical link to numerous other active transportation routes, including the Greenbelt Route and the Niagara River Recreation Trail, which is part of the Trans Canada Trail, Waterfront Trail and Greater Niagara Circle Route.
