In a year marked by significant anniversaries, the Christian Benefit Shop Inc. proudly announces celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the New to You Thrift Shop located at 59 Southworth Street North in Welland and the 40th anniversary of the Port Thrift Shop located at 12 Charlotte St in Port Colborne. Established in September 1974 and November 1984 respectively, these milestones are a testament to decades of unwavering community support and dedication.
“As we reflect on these milestones, we are grateful for the immense support from our community and partners,” said John Williams, Board Chair. “Our journey has been shaped by the generosity of volunteers, staff, donors, and the steadfast partnership with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).”
“We are thrilled to commemorate these historic milestones,” said John. “From humble beginnings to becoming integral parts of our community fabric, these anniversaries celebrate our journey alongside all those who have contributed to our success.”
The Christian Benefit Shop operates with a mission to follow Christ’s example by reaching out to those in need, recycling and selling quality donated items at reasonable prices. Profits from our operations support MCC’s global relief efforts as well as local community needs, ensuring that our impact extends far beyond our shop doors.
The festivities will kick off with a series of activities at both shop locations throughout the late summer. These events will feature special sales, refreshments, and more, aimed at expressing gratitude to our loyal customers and supporters. Promotions will be showcased on social media, in-shop, and through local churches.
As part of our anniversary initiatives, we will also be hosting a special evening of celebration in late September. We are especially excited to invite representatives from organizations we support, such as our local food banks, South Niagara Life Ministries, and Camp Kahquah, as well as the devoted individuals, past and present, whose passion has been so instrumental in growing our thrift shop ministry.
“We invite everyone to join us in celebrating these milestones and supporting our ongoing efforts to make a difference in the lives of those in our community and beyond,” added John.
