It’s said that Zepheniah James has been drumming since as long as he could hold a baby rattle in his hand! His “home” instrument is the Conga. He first learned how to make Congas by apprenticing with a master craftsman, and then he learned to play them. Zephie plays all percussion and teaches Djembe, Kit, Congas and hand-percussion instruments.
Zephie originates from Montego Bay, Jamaica before moving to Canada in 1992. He lived in Toronto then came to Niagara Falls in 2016. During his time in Toronto, Zephie facilitated 2 drumming groups, had many individual students, and 2 professional bands that he was lead singer and percussionist for. He’s played with Percy Sledge and many Reggae greats in Toronto and in his time touring with the Jamaica Tourist Board prior to coming to Canada. More recently, “Zephie and His Hot Pepper Jam” closed out the Canada Summer Games at the Games Park in 2022.
He loves Niagara and in making this his new home, he’s established himself in the local music and arts community and looks forward to sharing his rhythm and beat of the drum with Niagara.
Let’s join Zephie at the Heartland Beat Drum Circle 6pm on Friday, July 28 @heartlandforestniagara and together we can share the rhythm!
