The Niagara College Knights men’s volleyball team (8-8) dropped a pair of matches last week and sits in fifth place in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association West Division.
Niagara lost 3-1 (11-25, 25-18, 23-25, and 23-25) to the Conestoga Condors and 3-0 (19-25, 19-25 and 21-25) to the St. Clair Saints.
Top performers for Niagara versus Conestoga were: R.J. Martin with nine points on seven kills, two digs, two blocks and and assist; Wizdom Smith with 13 points on 11 kills, four digs and two blocks; and Ashton Nieuwets with 10 points on seven kills, six digs, two blocks, a service ace and an assist.
Leading the way versus St. Clair were: Nieuwets with 12 points on 10 kills, four digs and two blocks; Rowan Redekop with four points on three kills, a dig and a block; and, Smith with six points on four kills, two digs, a block, a service ace and an assist.
“The boys were not ready to compete and St. Clair was. Lucky for us, we have a full week of practice to prepare for our final two games,” Niagara head coach Steve Stone said.
The home match versus Conesotoga was Senior Night and Ashton Nieuwets, Liam Marchetti, Matthew Takacs, Adrien Feuillat and Micah Nieuwets were honoured.
Niagara is at Boreal (0-15) Saturday and third-place Cambrian (11-4) Sunday.
