May is recognized as Leave a Legacy Month, a national awareness campaign created by the Canadian Association of Gift Planners to highlight the importance and impact of charitable gifts in wills. Niagara Community Foundation (NCF) is Niagara’s philanthropic partner, championing this national awareness campaign with a series of flag raisings across all 12 municipalities.
2025 also marks NCF’s 25th Anniversary. Leave a Legacy month is the launch of a 6 month anniversary campaign, where NCF will be celebrating the impact it has had across Niagara over the last 25 years. The celebrations include:
– Flag raisings in all 12 municipalities
– Proclamations from 6 municipalities
– Third Party events across Niagara
– Floral Display at St. Catharines Lester B. Pearson Park
– Marketing campaign across Niagara
– Fundholder celebration in November
– And much more!
Please see the flag raising schedule below, happening between May 1 and May 9th. Media is welcome to attend. Please notify Suzanne Veenstra of your attendance: communications@niagaracommunityfoundation.org.
Many residents across Niagara may believe that philanthropy is only for the wealthy, when in reality, even a small percentage of one’s estate can create meaningful and lasting change in the community. Generosity is a powerful force for good, and individuals from all walks of life have the ability to make a difference by including a charitable gift in their will, ensuring their values live on through causes that matter most to them.
Founded in 2000, Niagara Community Foundation has raised over $91.5 million and has granted in excess of $32 million to charities working in the arts, heritage, environment, social services, health, education and community development sectors. NCF connects donor to causes and communities to resources, turning intent into impact.
