The Niagara Migrant Workers Interest Group (NMWIG), in partnership with the Welland-McMaster Family Health Team and Positive Living Niagara, is proud to announce the return of a vital annual event – the 3rd Annual Migrant Farm Worker Health Fair, taking place on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the Pelham Old Town Hall.
This Health Fair is more than just an event – it’s a celebration of connection, care, and community. Designed to increase access to health and social services for Niagara’s migrant workers, the day also helps foster a sense of belonging between seasonal workers and the local residents who welcome them each year.
Thanks to the outpouring of generosity from local supporters in previous years, last year’s event was a resounding success. With growing attendance and enthusiasm, this year’s fair has found a new home in Pelham’s Old Town Hall, a larger venue made possible by the generous support of the Rotary Club of Fonthill, who have covered the cost of the hall rental.
Migrant Farm Workers are essential to the Niagara Region, contributing significantly to our fruit and wine industries, and supporting local businesses during their stay. Despite their contributions, access to community activities and essential health services often remains limited. That’s why this Health Fair matters—it offers not just information and services, but also recognition and appreciation.
Call for Community Donations
To help make this year’s event another memorable one, organizers are reaching out to Niagara’s local businesses and residents to lend their support. Donations of practical and fun items will be used as raffle prizes and gift bag giveaways for the workers attending the Health Fair.
Requested items include:
-
Welcome Bag Essentials: Sunglasses, reusable bags, sunblock, lip balm, first aid supplies, work gloves, cricket and soccer balls.
-
Gift Cards: For purchasing food and refreshments such as water, pop, juice, cookies, watermelon, and disposable cutlery and plates.
It is estimated that 100 migrant workers will be in attendance, along with representatives from sponsoring agencies and community organizations. It’s a unique opportunity to connect, support, and show appreciation for the people who help keep Niagara’s farms thriving.
As a thank-you, all contributing businesses and organizations will be recognized on the event poster, acknowledged during the Health Fair, and featured on the NMWIG website and social media platforms.
Let’s come together and demonstrate the true Niagara spirit of community and compassion. Your support—no matter how big or small—goes a long way in showing these workers that they are seen, valued, and welcome.
