The unofficial results of the Ward One by-election are in, and Wayne Olson will serve as Ward One’s Councillor for the remainder of the term. Olson, receiving the most votes, becomes Pelham’s newest Councillor once certified by the Clerk.
Olson received a total of 681 of the 1,177 votes cast, for 58 per cent of the vote. Twenty votes were cast using the on-demand special ballot.
This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were two advance polls in addition to Voting Day. Mail-in ballots were accepted for those directly affected by COVID-19.
Overall, 26.95 per cent of eligible Ward One voters cast a vote.
The Clerk will declare the candidate who received the highest number of votes to be elected, and the Official results will be made public when the Clerk has completed the compilation of statements received from the deputy returning officers, expected to be on September 16.
Olson will swear the oath of office before the regularly scheduled Council meeting on September 21.
Twenty votes were cast using the on-demand special ballot.
