The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre is pleased to present Summer Haven, a solo exhibition by Canadian artist Rob Crosby, on view from June 25 to July 27, 2025. The public is invited to an opening reception on Sunday, July 6 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., where guests can meet the artist and hear his remarks at 2:30 p.m.
Summer Haven is a personal and nostalgic journey, inspired by Crosby’s summers spent painting near the ocean, surrounded by old boats and maritime life. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1960 and now residing in Ontario, Crosby’s heart remains tethered to the East Coast—a connection clearly evident in the subject matter of his work.
In an increasingly fast-paced world, Crosby’s work offers a retreat into peace and simplicity. “It’s time to get back to simpler times and memories,” says the artist. “Fishing, cruising around in your old car, or just going for a walk to de-stress—I hope my work conveys a feeling of calm and relaxation.” His pieces serve as gentle reminders to pause, take in a sunset, or simply appreciate the view of the ocean.
Viewers can expect his artwork to evoke feelings of serenity and joy, often sparking memories or offering a sense of familiarity through colour, texture, and composition. “I only paint what fascinates me—whether it’s the colour, the texture, or the emotion it stirs. I hope the viewer enjoys the experience as much as I do,” he shares.
Crosby’s style leans toward realism, and his attention to detail is driven by the photographs he takes during his travels. Painting in acrylics allows him the flexibility to work in layers, giving depth and life to his subjects. For over 30 years, he has exhibited widely, including at the McMichael Canadian Art Gallery, Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre, Glenhyrst Art Gallery, Lunenburg Gallery, and the Art District Gallery, among others. He is also a frequent participant in art festivals across Canada.
Above all, Crosby’s artistic passion is rooted in colour and texture, and the joy of creating. His work—rich in character and authenticity—is not just a visual experience, but an invitation to slow down and appreciate the quiet beauty of the world around us.
Visitors are invited to the Pumphouse for a memorable exhibition that captures the charm of coastal life and the enduring allure of time-honoured traditions.
