Support local charities while giving back to your garden! Spring is here, and it’s the perfect time to nourish your garden—and your community. The Niagara Region Spring Compost Event is happening now through Saturday, May 10, offering residents a great opportunity to pick up high-quality compost while supporting local charitable organizations.
How It Works
From now until May 10, Niagara residents can collect up to three 20-litre bags of compost per household during regular business hours. In exchange, all that’s asked is a donation of non-perishable food items or cash to benefit the following local charities:
- Fort Erie COPE (Community Outreach Program Erie)
- West Lincoln Community Care
- Salvation Army Thrift Store
- The HOPE Centre
- Goodwill Niagara
Please note: expired food items will not be accepted.
Where to Pick Up Your Compost
Compost is available at various locations across Niagara. Residents are encouraged to plan their visits outside of peak times—Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday tend to be the busiest days.
When you arrive, attendants will be on hand to accept donations and assist with the distribution process. However, residents are responsible for loading compost into their own vehicles. The maximum allotment is three bags per vehicle per day, and final distribution is at the discretion of the attendants.
Why Participate?
This event is a win-win for our region:
- You take home nutrient-rich compost to help your gardens flourish
- You support local charities that provide vital services to our community
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just planting your first few flowers, this is a wonderful way to kick off the season while making a difference.
Don’t miss your chance to give back to your garden and your community—visit your nearest compost distribution site before May 10!
