The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre is pleased to announce the continuation of the THRIVE – Introduction to Creativity for Seniors program, made possible through funding from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. THRIVE fosters social participation and inclusion among seniors by providing accessible learning opportunities in the arts and volunteerism.
The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre extends its gratitude to the Government of Canada for its support in ensuring the THRIVE program remains accessible to seniors in the community. Through this initiative, the centre remains committed to providing a safe and welcoming space where older adults 50 and over can explore their creativity, build meaningful connections, and embrace new artistic experiences.
“We are thrilled to continue offering the THRIVE program, which aligns with our mission to make art accessible to all,” said Rima Boles, Art Centre Director of Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre. “By creating a welcoming space for seniors, we aim to inspire lifelong learning, foster meaningful connections, and cultivate a flourishing creative community across generations.”
THRIVE offers no-charge, introductory-level, in-studio and online art classes designed specifically for individuals aged 50 and older. These sessions provide older adults with the opportunity to explore various artistic mediums, learn new skills, and connect with others in a supportive environment. The program aims to reach and engage participants in the community.
As in previous years, the initiative will feature beginner-friendly sessions in art & yoga, drawing, fused glass, painting, and online art. This year, to support the expansion of in-studio offerings, Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre will purchase essential equipment for stained glass and printmaking workshops, further enhancing the creative opportunities available to participants.
As part of this initiative, the centre will also recruit volunteers to support both in-studio and online sessions. These volunteers will help create an inclusive and engaging learning environment, fostering social interaction and encouraging participants to build lasting relationships.
